Your First Visit to Our Newton Chiropractic Practice
You will have time to complete your admitting paperwork in the office before you meet Dr. Oliver, or you can complete your paperwork before your appointment online here.
We Explain Everything First
The purpose of your consultation with Dr Oliver is to discuss your health goals and see if this is the right office to suit your needs. If you both decide it is, a thorough examination will help identify the cause of your problem. If we can help – great- we will make our ideal recommendations for care. If we cannot, we will refer you to the proper health care specialist. Our goal is make you comfortable. If you’re unsure or unsatisfied with something we say or a certain procedure, let us know. We’re here to help.
Newton chiropractic patients appreciate that we explain everything in advance.
What will happen on my first visit?
The first visit is helpful in gathering the necessary information, to see if Move Well Chiropractic is the right place for you. You will meet with Dr. Oliver after filling out some brief paperwork describing your health history and goals. The initial consultation is free. We offer this so we can get to know one another and decide whether or not chiropractic care is right for you.
If you think it is a good fit and Dr Oliver thinks he can help you, the next step is an examination.
During the exam:
- You will be asked to perform some range-of-motion tests (to see if there are any restricted movements or motions that cause you discomfort).
- Dr Oliver will perform orthopedic tests (to determine if there are any underlying problems)
- He will also do a thorough postural analysis because poor posture often is the culprit for many of the conditions we see.
- Following these test, Dr Oliver will examine your spine to determine if there are any areas which are not functioning as they should be. There may be areas that are restricted and not moving as much as they should, or you may have areas that are actually moving too much.
- Depending on your history and what we discover in the exam Dr. Oliver may order x-rays of your spine. He will only do so if he believes they are necessary. The vast majority of patients do not need xrays prior to their first treatment.
The importance of each of these tests and their findings will be explained to you after the examination. It also gives us a baseline for future tests so we can accurately measure your progress.
At the end of your examination you get the choice to decide how you would like to proceed. If you decide you would like to move forward with treatment and Dr Oliver finds no contraindications to this you can begin right then and there. Depending on what is needed Dr Oliver may adjust you, do soft tissue work on you, and/or show you stretches and exercises you can do at home to supplement your in-office care.
Next, what to expect at your second appointment.
